Regarding the Prop 8 antagonists, my 77 yr old mother received a threatening phone call to her residence this evening from an angry young man who angrily threatened her for supporting prop. 8. She was so shaken and frightened that she hung up and contacted me.
Evidently the contributors to both sides of prop 8 were made public. Here we have anti- Calif. prop 8 people in boiler rooms making harrassing phone calls. They are going out of their way to harrass people. Equal rights? If anybody says anything or makes a slight against the group or an individual of the homosexual subscribers, then there are many HATE laws that can be activated for retaliation. No legal reciprocation here. Where is the tolerance?? Here we have a group of people who are intolerant of those who do not agree with them and have special rights above the mainstream citizen.
Intimidation and group retaliations are their methods and cleverly their underlying legal machinations once they get legal precedents to move their agenda.
Civil unions are theirs right now. What more?

I agree, this has always been about acceptance of a questionable lifestyle. This is the most perverse religious persecution I've ever seen. It comes under the guise of alleged victimhood. Somehow, being Gay is the new N***** and that is BS. This isn't about love, this isn't about rights, it's about complete validation by way of twisted law, while eventually taking away the rights of others, namely those who hold to sincere religious beliefs. No, the Constitution will not protect them after you're through pushing to have them silenced as "preachers and rabbis of hate." Why? Because if you're as "equal" as others, why should you be singled out or have your lifestyle scrutinized? Just wait and see. With the leftist press in your pocket, it's an inevitability.

Just because MOST do not share the belief that Gay and Lesbian lifestyles are natural doesn't mean they are hate mongers. Forget religion, social science has proven repeatedly the burden of such lifestyles on society. It doesn't work!

However, I must say this. Someone in here wrote that you are not born Gay, but you choose it. I think both arguments don't make sense. I believe our sexuality is far more dynamic and complex, than the simplicity we render it to be. I believe we are influenced by a great number of people and things from when we are in the womb. I believe the hatred directed to gays and lesbians has hendered us from being compassionate enough to deal with the issue with love and truth.

My concern is that the Genesis Bible verse that you get the idea that homosexuality is bad and wicked has Lot offering his two virgin daughters to a sexually riotous crowd outside his door. So if this verse means that homosexuality is wicked does it also mean that the Catholic Church supports allowing virgins to be gang raped?

I am confused.

Yawn... The fight for banning same-sex marriage was lost over on hundred years ago when the 14th Amendment was added to the Constitution. It'll take a while, the judicial process is, after all, designed to be glacially deliberative, but in the end State constitutions are not permitted to be more restrictive than the Federal Constitution.

We aren't a 'Christian' nation in terms of Government. Our Government, while expected to be moral, was established secular, among other reasons, to avoid infringing on individual rights to worship as desired, or not at all. Argue if you will, but facts are facts, and this fight has already been lost, same as Jim Crow was outlawed albeit long before it was finally eliminated throughout the nation.

And, by the way, while marriage is a Sacrament in the Church, the marriage license you sign before the ceremony is issued by the State, and is a legal construct of the State. It must be hard for you, but try not to get the two confused...

Great response. I have to say, that I am still amazed that, in this day and age, we still have such discrimination. Marriage is sacred to each couple who enters. It is different than a legal union! If they were the same, why do any of us get married? The biggest opposition to homosexual marriage is religious groups. Since when did Americans interpret the right of freedom to exercise their religious beliefs as they see fit to force their religious beliefs on others? We should all live our lives with our faith leading our actions. We all have to answer for our actions. This includes the horrible dicrimination to our fellow humans. Congrats, when you arrive at those Pearly Gates, get ready for your judging.

Comment on Six Consequences the Coalition Has Identified If Proposition 8 Fails by Bruce

The 6 Consequences of Prop 8 For the Mormon Church
(Whether the proposition passes or fails)

1.)	Members Divided
The church has been weakened from the inside, as the mandate to support Prop 8 has taken a toll on Mormon congregations across the nation, dividing many families and long-time friends. Many church members who are against Prop 8 have felt ostracized, feel disgust that their tithing money is used to support Prop 8, and have felt uncomfortable attending church meetings.

2.)	Few Friends, Many Enemies
Ask people of foreign countries what they think of Americans and you will not hear them say many flattering things. Similar to the rest of the world’s view of the United States thanks to Bush’s foreign policies, the Mormon Church will be left with the reality of having few friends and many enemies among non-Mormons and other organizations. One can’t help but feel sorry for the difficulties that future missionaries will face when trying to get people to listen to their message.

3.)	Civil Rights - Reputation Worsened
Before the Mormon Church even jumped in to this election, it was already regarded by most outsiders of having an abysmal track record when it came to civil rights because of their history of not granting timely equality to African Americans and women. Pushing so hard on not granting marriage equality to another minority group will worsen this reputation.

4.)	Wasted Money
The Mormon Church has spent tens of millions of dollars on the “yes on Prop 8” cause. Much of this money comes from the money that members have paid in. There have been many reports that a large portion of this money went to pay salaries of the few men who ran the Prop 8 campaign and many people feel like this money could have been spent on something more worthwhile like fighting poverty.

5.)	Secret Truths Revealed
Before this election, most non-members knew very little about the Mormon Church outside of the Word of Wisdom and its history of polygamy. However, during this election, the casual viewer of popular message boards will learn many false rumors about the Mormon Church. However, they can also learn many of the somewhat secret truths that the Mormon Church doesn’t publicize. Even long-time members may be learning some of the controversial aspects of Mormon history for the first time.

6.)	Still No Solutions
Once the dust has settled from this election, the Mormon Church will be left in the same predicament it was in before the election; without any real solutions for its present and future gay members and their families. As the rest of the world moves quickly from a “just being tolerant of gays” mindset to a civilization that accepts gays as complete equals, the Mormon Church will either have to change doctrine or be viewed by others as an even more fringe cult. It makes one wonder whether entering the political arena by pushing Prop 8 is just delaying the inevitable and that these 6 consequences will be the result of a major miscalculation by church leadership.

I came across this site while doing research on prop 8 and found it really helpful. It's a timeline of same-sex marriage from 1970 to the present. It's a comprehensive look on the issue from both proponent and opponent led events.

As a current student, I (we) would know of how Proposition 8 effects us. I am NOT for vandalism at all. Everything should be kept fair game, so i think the Yes on 8 campaign is full of lies and needs to keep things fair themselves. Using students to lie, stealing donations, and flat out lying about the effects this will have on the economy. I (we) have done the research--if passed, Prop 8 will be ready to only to do it's damage on our generation. Even in the most prejudice of towns (or the one i live in) there are always homosexuality in people and the youth to be found. Prop. 8 will leave a terrible impact for those of us (gay or straight) more accepting and supporting of gays and lesbians. As you know, your signs are stolen often--not just by us, by but EVERYONE who opposes such an abomination to the constiution of California. It's just that horrible!

"....Life, Liberty, and the Persuit of Happiness"

DON'T ROB "US" OF THAT!

     !NO on 8!
